25 Stouffville student concerts have raised $120,000 for school music programs

The 25th annual Whitchurch-Stouffville Student Music Scholarship Concert drew another standing-room-only crowd to the Stouffville District Secondary School auditorium Friday night.

With this year’s receipts, the event has raised more than $120,000 – all of it donated to the music programs of participating schools.

The program included bands, choirs and dancers from eight area schools — St. Brendan; St. Brigid; Stouffville Christian; Summitview; Whitchurch Highlands; Ballantrae; Ecole Catholique Pape Francois and Stouffville Secondary.

Jacquie Sandler, a Grade 12 flautist at Stouffville Secondary, received the scholarship presented annually during the concert.

The concert is hosted by Stouffville’s St. James Presbyterian Church. The organizing committee includes Jim Thomas, who was one of the event’s founders, Jim Paterson and Gerry Irwin.
