Bengt Jörgen, artistic director and CEO of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen (CBJ), unveiled the world premiere of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet this past weekend in Halifax. The North American tour will include over 47 performances across nine Canadian provinces and four US states. The Ontario premiere will be held at the Flato Markham Theatre from October 4 to 6, with limited tickets remaining to the four performances.
Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet is a playful, colourful and evocative production that will transport audiences to early 20th century Atlantic Canada. Based on the beloved Canadian novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, an orphan girl sent to live on a farm in the fictional town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island.
“On behalf of the City of Markham, we are proud to welcome Canada’s Ballet Jörgen to the Flato Markham Theatre for the Ontario premiere of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet, as they bring one of Canada’s most renowned and beloved tales to life,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This exceptional production reinforces the Flato Markham Theatre’s position as a preeminent cultural destination for high-profile international and local performances.”
Alexander Levkovich is the orchestrator for Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet. An internationally accomplished Canadian composer, he has created over 60 adaptations of existing works and 50 original pieces throughout Ukraine, Israel, Italy, the United States, and Canada.
CBJ Principal Dancer Hannah Mae Cruddas is dancing a dream role as Anne Shirley in the company’s world premiere of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet. She received her formative dance training from the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts and the Leica Hardy School of Dance in her home province of Nova Scotia before joining Canada’s National Ballet School in 2009.
“Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is grateful to our presenting partners across Canada and the United States for their enthusiastic support of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet. This will be the largest tour in the Company’s history and will ensure Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved story continues to inspire new and old audiences alike,” says Mr. Jörgen.
