Investigators with the #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged two men and recovered a large quantity of stolen property following thefts from vehicles.
The investigation began on January 15, 2019, when a theft was reported from a vehicle that had been parked at a gym in the area of Yonge Street and Green Lane in the Town of East Gwillimbury. The driver of the vehicle had left valuables in the car before going into the gym for a workout. When he returned, his valuables were missing.
As the investigation progressed, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, two suspects believed to be responsible for the theft were observed in a parking lot of a community centre located in the area of Clark Avenue West and Atkinson Avenue in the City of Vaughan. The suspects entered a parked car and attempted to steal valuables from inside. Police then placed under arrest.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence in the City of Markham and stolen property was recovered. Investigators are releasing pictures of the recovered property and asking people who may have had property stolen from their vehicles to review the images and contact police if they see items that belong to them. Attila Kolcza and Karoly Csurkui are both facing several charges including Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Break And Enter instruments, and Attempted Theft.
The investigation is still ongoing.
