When the Stouffville Spirit begin their regular season on Saturday night, they will be doing so without the man they expected to be this year’s bench boss.
Andre Darlow, who was hired in the spring to take over the Ontario Junior Hockey ‘A’ League (OJHL) team this year, has stepped down from the role.
Spirit general manager Ken Burrows made the announcement this past weekend of the coaching change.
“We’d like to sincerely thank Andre,” Burrows said. “He did a tremendous amount of work for us this spring and summer and our team is better off because of him.”
In Darlow’s absence, assistant coaches Brandon Kearnan and Andrew Campoli have been promoted to co-coaches.
With the preseason now complete, the new campaign begins on Saturday for the Spirit, when they travel to Georgetown to take on the Raiders. Stouffville’s home opener is Sunday afternoon, when it hosts the recently relocated Collingwood Colts.
