York Regional Police (YRP) Deputy Chief André Crawford, recipient of a Police Exemplary Service Medal, will retire this fall.

Since launching his career with YRP in 1986, Crawford has worked in Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Intelligence, Sexual Assault, Crimes Against Children, Homicide, Training and Education and Community Services. He was appointed Deputy Chief of Administration in 2013 and now serves as Deputy Chief of Operations.

He also served in community services, where he was responsible for building partnerships and engaging citizens through innovative outreach programs, crime prevention initiatives and volunteer opportunities. Crawford is also the recipient of the Chief of Police Award for investigative excellence, a gold medal from the Human Rights and Race Relations Centre, and the Black Business and Professional Association Harry Jerome Social Engagement Award.

A graduate of the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management Police Leadership program and the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, Crawford’s retirement is effective November 6.
