The York Region Arts Council has announced that the opening keynote speaker for the upcoming (FE)ST Festivals & Events Symposium & Training event will be Olivia Nuamah, Executive Director of Pride Toronto.
(FE)ST is a one-day professional development symposium for festival & event organizers, staff, board members, and volunteers. The inaugural event will take place January 24, 2019 at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Downtown Markham. Engaging industry speakers will share fruitful information on a variety of important topics, such as Diversity and Inclusion, Healthy Team Culture, Sponsorship, Marketing and Promotions and Event Risk Management in various formats including two keynote presentations, breakout sessions and a panel discussion. Social justice and LGBTQ rights advocate, Olivia Nuamah, will be speaking about the importance of taking into account integrative and inclusive programming when planning public events in her opening keynote presentation.

We are excited to provide a platform for Olivia to share valuable insights about how event organizers can work diversity and inclusion into their events.”
Closing keynote speaker is Michael Prosserman, who is the original founder of Unity Charity and Unity Festival. Michael will reveal why supporting your people is the most worthy investment.
“Creating a team culture that promotes wellbeing is vital, especially when working with volunteers.” said Michael, “I’m excited to share strategies, stories and lessons learned from building Unity charity from the ground up over 15 years at (FE)ST!”

In 2015, York Region Arts Council in collaboration with the Federation of Chinese Canadians of Markham (FCCM), Culture Bridge Initiatives and Biindigen Healing & Arts, received a four-year Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to launch the York Region Festival Alliance, a collaborative initiative that focuses on umbrella marketing (York Region Festival Trail), capacity building programs and shared resources.
Now in its fourth year, the Festival Alliance has established a strong membership base of festival and event organizers. Based on members’ input, York Region Arts Council decided to launch (FE)ST. This event is open to event organizers and businesses across the G.T.A.
