Family organizes food donation for healthcare workers

Burrito Zone in Markham owner Vick Darubra and his family generously donated 250 meals to frontline healthcare workers at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Toronto Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia and many local dignitaries, including MPP Paul Calandra and Markham Councillor Khalid Usman, helped with the coordination of the delivery of meals to the hospital staff.

The restaurant owner’s daughter, Shivi Darubra, is a graduate of Seneca’s Public Administration program and is also CEO of The Little Blue Elephant — an initiative aimed at raising awareness about children’s mental health, which was developed out of Seneca HELIX.

She organized the food donation to showcase how local small businesses are pushing forward amid the difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and how they are supporting frontline healthcare workers.
