Police are looking for suspects after several firearms were stolen early Jan. 23 from a store near Stouffville Road and Woodbine Avenue in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Suspects forced entry through a side door of the building. York Regional Police responded to the break and enter at 4:50 a.m.
The store, identified as Target Sports Canada, was closed for the day due to an emergency, according to its website. The facility is described as a “safe and modern shooting facility capable of using up to .50 BMG calibre firearms” and is home to more than 2,000 square feet of “clean and well-stocked retail featuring guns, gear and gifts” as well as two shooting bays.
Police are asking anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area between 4 and 5:15 a.m. or who may have dashcam footage during that time frame to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.1800222tips.com.
Police are reminding residents and businesses to take steps to prevent the theft of firearms. If firearms are stored in a safe, consider securing the safe to a wall or floor or other suitable fixed point. Firearms can be further secured by using a trigger lock or other locking device. Also, always store your firearms unloaded.
