Grab your bicycle for Bike Month

Coinciding with the warm spring weather is Bike Month happening across York Region. Bike Month starts on May 29 and continues until June 30 with many rides and events happening across the region.

Events include Bike to Work Day and Bike to School week starting on May 29.

Bike to School Week event expands on the success of Bike Month and on inspiring initiatives among local schools and community partners. It was first celebrated in 2015 in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Last year saw 301 schools registered and more than 21,000 students participated.

Another important ride event in York Region is York Regional Police’s Ride 4 Styles happening on June 4 for its seventh year.

The ride, starting at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area, is to honour the memory of fallen officer Constable Garret Styles. In 2016 Ride 4 Styles hosted 150 riders and raised more than $20,000 for York Region charities.

Since its existence, the event has raised more than $80,000 for charity. Proceeds from this year’s ride will be donated to Victim Services of York Region, Jumpstart Canadian Tire and the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. A donation will also be made to the Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember.
