Hate-motivated graffiti found at skate park

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hate Crime Unit and the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are appealing for witnesses after a hate-motivated incident in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 9:35 a.m., York Regional Police were called to the Wayne Emmerson Skate Park, which is in the area of Park Drive and Hoover Park Drive, for a report of offensive graffiti. When officers arrived, they found that an anti-LGBTQ message had been spray painted on the walls and ramps. Staff with the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville attended and removed the graffiti.

Investigators are asking any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone with residential video surveillance footage in that area, who have not yet spoken with investigators to please come forward.

York Regional Police does not tolerate hate crime in any form. Those who victimize individuals based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or mental or physical disability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
