The new Whitchurch-Stouffville entrance sign, at the Hwy. 404 and Stouffville Road off-ramp, should be complete by November and the town’s portion of the price tag is much less than originally expected.
In the 2017 budget, $65,000 was allocated to construct the sign. Since then, the Rice Group, a retail, commercial and industrial developer, has sponsored its construction, reducing the town’s portion to about $15,000.
The sign, approved by council in 2015, was to be fully illuminated and visible at night but because of the distance and costs associated with providing electrical connections for lighting the sign. It will now be illuminated using solar power lighting technology.
Meanwhile, council approved the painting of the words ‘Whitchurch-Stouffville’ on the York Region water tower at 12519 10th Line. The project will cost $13,500, excluding all applicable taxes, and will be funded through an appropriate water account.
