YSpace in Markham is York University’s newest community innovation hub that supports high potential innovators.
You can access incubation spaces where you can learn from others and collaborate, access expertise mentorship, use high-end technologies (including 3D printers and laser cutters, among other items), have access to local events and access possible funding opportunities.
One of the interesting things about ySpace is the fact that they accept applications from innovators in any industry. This is great because it presents a level playing field for all innovators.
There is a certain eligibility criteria to being accepted into the ySpace membership arena: your product needs to either be in market or ready for launch within three months, one founder commits to working on the venture full-time and in YSpace three days a week, your product has a great potential to grow and scale to achieve high impact, your product is focused on solving a societal problem using innovative methods, and you must be driven and collaborative.
If this sounds like you, head over to yspace.yorku.ca and check out the application form to be considered.
Another great advantage to having access to this space is, according to the eSpace website, is the access you would have to both York Link, where you will receive assistance in finding strategic connections, office space, and government grant opportunities to local and international businesses, as well as York Angels, a group of accredited angel investors seeking superior financial returns by investing in early stage start-ups.
