Kidnapping victim Wanzehn Lu has been found with minor injuries but the suspects in the Markham abduction remain at large.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on March 26, a man walked up to a residence on Doe Lake Rd. in the Town of Gravenhurst looking for help. OPP officers responded to the homeowner’s call and identified the man as 22-year-old Lu. The Chinese international student was suffering from minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. His family, who arrived in Canada from China, has been notified that their son has been found safe.
A 35-year-old Toronto man, arrested as part of the investigation, has been released unconditionally. Four male suspects remain at large.
“We strongly recommend that the suspects involved in this kidnapping seek legal counsel and turn themselves in,” York Region Police say, in a statement.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on March 23, the victim and his friend were in an underground parking garage at a condominium building at 15 Water Walk Dr., near Hwy. 7 and Birchmount Rd. Three men, one of whom was armed with a taser, exited a van and grabbed the victim. The victim resisted and was shocked by the suspects. The suspects forced the victim into the van and fled.
The first suspect is described as wearing a mask, blue pants and black jacket. The second suspect has dark skin, is six feet one inch tall and was wearing a black Canada Goose jacket. The third suspect has dark skin, is six feet two inches tall with a heavier build and was wearing dark blue jeans with a black jacket. The fourth suspect was wearing a green/yellow jacket with a hood.
