Each year, the City of Markham comes together to read a book as part of the Markham Read initiative, the biggest city-wide reading program.

Markham Reads celebrates the love of reading and connects the Markham community through one book. Similar to previous years, the library is inviting Markham residents to read together and participate in a series of themed events. What’s different about this year’s Markham Reads is that it is going all virtual. The library has unlimited digital copies of the winning book and will be hosting four virtual events in August.

Based on the community’s votes, this year’s winning book is The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel.

Emily St. John Mandel’s fifth novel, The Glass Hotel, was recently published in Canada and the US, and is forthcoming in the UK in August. Her previous novels include Station Eleven, which was a finalist for a National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award, and won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award among other honours, and has been translated into 33 languages.

Check out the Reading Guide, read the eBook and join all the fun virtual events that are planned for you in August. For more info, visit https://markhampubliclibrary.ca/markham-reads/
