York Region’s second Lendery – a ‘library of things’ – has opened its doors at the Newmarket Public Library.
A Lendery is much like a library but rather than borrowing books, you borrow items that you need at the moment but don’t need to own. That might include party supplies, small kitchen appliances, sports equipment and tools.
Organizers are calling on the community to build and maintain the Lendery, which is a joint venture of York Region, Newmarket Public Library and York Region Makers. Their donation wish list includes gently-used or new hand tools, power tools, lawn and garden tools, party supplies, small kitchen appliances, camping items (but not tents or sleeping bags) and sports equipment.
Visit www.newmarketpl.ca/en/collections/york-region-lendery.aspx for a complete list of items and for information on how to donate items to the Lendery, which is located at the Newmarket Public Library at 438 Park Ave.
The Region’s first Lendery location opened at Miliken Mills Community Centre and Library in Markham in July 2019. Each location supports York’s SM4RT Living Plan Reuse, Repair and Repurpose strategy to reduced waste by about five per cent by 2031.
