The construction boards are still up at the community centre that was, and will be, the permanent home for the Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library. Regardless, the work zone recently played host to an excited group of library board trustees who gathered to accept a $15,000 donation from PACE Credit Union. The donation is a part of the credit union’s “Community Investment Sponsorship Fund.”
“Investing in the communities we serve is a core principal of the co-operative movement and something we at PACE take pride in,” said Melodina Aruta, PACE marketing manager.
As part of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Leisure Centre and Library expansion, the library will be doubling in size with an expected completion date in spring 2018. While the library is fortunate to have town support in funding the project, it will also need community support to make sure the new space is well equipped for the expanding user base.
“We are pleased with the support and collaboration with the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, but know that to be the well-equipped library that the town needs, we will need some help from the community,” said Bill Slovitt, chairperson of the library board fundraising committee. “We appreciate the support of community orientated businesses such as PACE Credit Union. They have been a long time partner of the library and we are pleased that they will be a significant part of our new facility.”
Library officials are asking other community groups, businesses and residents to support the expansion. Those wishing to support can contact the library at 905-642-7323, extension 5223.
