Police identify 1 suspect in street robbery

Police are looking for a 19-year-old man in connection with a street robbery and assault with a weapon in Newmarket but warn he is armed and dangerous.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, had been walking in the Kingsmere Avenue and Ivsbridge Boulevard area on Thursday, Aug. 23 just before 4 p.m. when he was approached by two men on bicycles wearing hoodies with their faces covered, York Regional Police report.


The suspects demanded the victim hand over his backpack. He refused and tried to run away but was followed by the suspects, one of whom pulled out a knife and cut the victim’s hand and then cut the backpack off of him and fled the area. The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries.

Responding officers searched the area for the suspects with the help of the Canine Unit and the YRP helicopter Air2 to no avail. Alexander Jolly of no fixed address is wanted for robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. If you spot him, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

The second suspect was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and a black bandana covering his face. After further investigation officers, located the bicycles nearby that they believe the suspects had been riding.
