Police officers brave the cold in Polar Plunge

More than 75 people were #FreezinForAReason at York Regional Police Association’s (YRPA) Polar Plunge, raising more than $24,000 to benefit Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) athletes.

The event is presented annually by the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run and took place Thursday, March 5 in Newmarket. The theme was That 70s Night.

Participants pay a registration fee or fundraise the minimum requirement to take part in the Polar Plunge and can earn incentives based on how much money they raise in donations. They can plunge alone or as part of a group. Last year, the YRPA raised more than $30,000 for SOO.

Since 2015, the Ontario Polar Plunge has raised more than $1.5 million for SOO, an organization devoted to year-round sports and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
