Police seek suspect in coffee shop stabbings

A 42-year-old Richmond Hill man taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a stabbing at a coffee shop is expected to survive. A second victim, a 29-year-old man also from Richmond Hill, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

York Regional Police was called to a coffee shop near Bayview Avenue just north of Hwy. 7 on Wednesday, July 18 at around 9 p.m. and found two men suffering from stab wounds. Officers unsuccessfully searched the area for the suspect, who was not known to the victims.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 22 years and six feet tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a black-hooded vest.

On July 24, shortly after 3pm, the suspect turned himself into police #2 District Headquarters. Rashon Mair, 22, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
