The Alex Chiu Pool (formerly Milliken Mills Pool) reopened to the public on Saturday, January 18, 2020. The change rooms have been renovated, allowing the City of Markham to better meet the needs of its users.
A new feature of this facility is the universal change rooms. In a universal change room, everyone shares the common amenities and there are changing stalls for privacy. Nudity is not permitted in the universal area. Depending on the time of day, the universal change rooms will function as gender-specific change rooms. Staff are available onsite to answer any questions you may have.
Join the fun from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM for an afternoon of free swimming to celebrate the reopening of the Alex Chiu Pool at the Milliken Mills Community Centre and Library. There will be fun for everyone, with music, giveaways and more. The pool is located at 7600 Kennedy Road.
Alex Chiu is a champion for diversity and strengthening Markham’s international partnerships, and was instrumental in forging friendship agreements with Huadu District, Foshan and Nanhai in China. In addition, Alex was an advocate for adults with disabilities, empowering youth, community youth and senior groups and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a cause very close to his heart.
Alex Chiu championed the building of the Milliken Mills Community Centre & Library and was the first person to swim in the pool when the facility was completed in 1989.
