Spirit looking to cement playoff spot

The Stouffville Spirit had an average month of December winning four games, losing four, and tying one earning  10 points in 9 games.

The Spirit opened the month with three wins and a tie which included an 18-2 win against the Milton IceHawks. Spirit forward, Thomas Tinmouth, made the most out of that game scoring two goals and adding three assists.

The Spirit followed that up with three straight losses to finish the month. One of those losses included a tough 3-2 overtime loss against Cobourg. Stouffville was up 2-0 in the third when Cobourg tied it with just 28 seconds left in the period. The game went into double overtime when Cobourg potted the winner.

Stouffville had another critical loss against divisional rival Markham Royals who beat the Spirit 5-2. With the loss it means the Spirit lost ground on catching the Royals for first.

With two months and 20 games remaining in the season the Spirit’s top scorer remains Max Novick with 11 goals, 19 assists for 30 points. Josh Argier and Andrew Hughes sit in second and third with 29 points and 25 points respectfully.

Stouffville will play divisional opponents in 12 out of the 20 games remaining, none of which are against the Markham Royals.

The Spirit currently sit in sixth in the North East conference well clear of the final playoff spot and will look to cement their spot for the 2017 OJHL playoffs.
