Safety Village turns Spooky for Halloween

The weather was damp and the shuttles were packed but that didn’t stop the community from enjoying the sights, sounds and treats of Halloween in the Village Oct. 28. The community safety village is set up in Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area in Whitchurch-Stouffville for the training and education of emergency workers and school-age children throughout the year.

The York Region Police (YRP), fire and paramedic services transformed the area into a haunted miniature village for kids and families to explore. Everyone was given a bag to gather up candies at almost every building, whether it was the pretend Coldwell Banker or the little Viva building.

The tiny streets were filled with haunting sounds and music blaring through the speakers and smiling YRP officers who were only too happy to answer questions and act like tour guides. Also at the event was a haunted house at the end of a maze situated behind the village, a large indoor colouring room for kids and a McDonald’s truck handing out free speciality beverages.
