Stouffville Spirit struggle to find rhythm in first month of the season.

The Stouffville Spirit opened their 2017-2018 campaign on the wrong foot, losing their first three games of the season.

The Spirit looked to counter that with wins over Pickering, Cobourg and Kingston. In between those wins, Stouffville failed to gain any traction suffering loses following each win.

The team did have a positive finish to the first month by beating their regional rivals, Markham Royals, 4-3.

In the month of September, Stouffville played a total of ten games, four at home and six on the road. The Spirit took five out of a possible eight points finishing with a 2-1-0-1 record at home. Away from home deemed to be more challenging for the Spirit to get results, only earning four out of a possible twelve points with two well-earned wins against Kingston and Pickering.

Andrew Hughes leads the team in points with three goals and six assists. The Spirit received great production from their back end with defenceman Connor Evans scoring five goals and adding two assists for seven points.

Between the pipes, the Spirit relied heavily on Nathan Torchia who started eight games. Torchia holds a 4-4 record with a .908 save percentage and 3.14 goals against average. David Bowen made a couple starts, both resulting in loses, has a .891 save percentage and 5.42 goals against average.

In the month of October, the Stouffville Spirit will play a total of nine games, four of which will be at Stouffville Arena.
