‘Strong leader’ to fill school board vacancy

An “experienced educational leader” will help lead the York Region District School Board (YRDSB).

Clayton La Touche takes over the reins of Associate Director of Education, effective Aug. 1, the board announced at its July 10 meeting. His appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Associate Director Leslie Johnstone.

La Touche currently serves as Superintendent of Education, Human Resource Services and Operations. As one of three Associate Directors in the organization, he will assume responsibility for supporting overall organizational goals, needs and priorities.

“Clayton is an experienced educational leader who will bring great expertise and strategic insight that will benefit our students and staff members,” says Director of Education Louise Sirisko. “I’m proud to be appointing a strong leader who will work with our staff, students and their families and the community to continue implementing our strategic priorities and improve student achievement and well-being.”

La Touche has served in many leadership positions since he began his teaching career in 1994, including vice principal, principal and superintendent of education with responsibility for families of schools. YRDSB is the third largest school district in Ontario with more than 124,000 students in 177 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools.
