Suspect arrested following sexual assault in Aurora

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section have
arrested the suspect in a sexual assault investigation in the Town of Aurora.

In the early morning hours on July, investigators arrested a 22-year-old man
from the Town of Newmarket in connection with the ongoing sexual assault investigation. The name of the arrested
individual will be released once the charges are laid in court.

This investigation is ongoing and investigators are still looking to speak with anyone with
information including the potential witness who was jogging on the trails and the young woman with
blonde hair who was approached by the suspect after getting off of York Transit bus #1088 on the
date of the incident.

On Monday, June 24 at 11:50 a.m., York Regional Police were called to John West Way north of
Wellington Street for a report that a teenage girl was injured and had been sexually assaulted.

Investigators have determined that the female victim was walking in the trails west of John West
Way when she was approached by an unknown man, assaulted and sexually assaulted by a suspect who
was armed with a handgun. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for her injuries.
