Suspect sought after Newmarket armed robbery

York Regional Police are seeking a knife-wielding suspect who held up a Newmarket convenience store early Monday morning.

Officers were called to the store in the Davis Drive and Main Street South area around 4:05 a.m. following a report of an armed robbery. A male suspect had entered the store and demanded cash while brandishing a knife. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, he fled the store towards Davis Drive.

The clerk was not physically injured during the incident, police said. The suspect is described as 5-feet, 11-inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a blue jacket, navy shorts, white and black bandanna and carrying a black backpack.
