SUSPECT SOUGHT FOLLOWING COLLISION WITH POLICE CRUISER IN NEWMARKET

York Regional Police is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect and locate a stolen vehicle following a collision with a police cruiser in Newmarket.

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 6 p.m., officers on patrol saw a vehicle parked that was running, with the driver asleep at the wheel, at a restaurant in the area of Yonge Street and Dawson Manor Boulevard. The officers approached the driver to check on his well-being. The driver woke up and spoke with officers, then put the truck in drive and fled, striking a police cruiser. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Yonge Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers later determined that the vehicle was stolen in a warm-up theft that had occurred on February 8, 2019, in the City of Vaughan.

Investigators are releasing dashcam video of the incident and appealing to the public for any information that will assist with identifying the driver and locating the stolen vehicle.

The suspect is described as male, brown, between 40 – 55 years old. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jacket, and a red hat.

The stolen vehicle is a 2010 grey Honda Ridgeline with Ontario Licence plates AC90002
