Teen dies from injuries in New Year’s Day crash

A 16-year-old boy has succumbed to injuries sustained in a SUV crash in Vaughan on New Year’s Day and a 15-year-old boy remains in hospital after suffering life-threating injuries.

The 16-year-old died in hospital on January 2. The driver and two other passengers were also injured in the single-vehicle collision. A blue Kia Sportage left the roadway and collided with a tree just before midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 1 near King Vaughan Road and Kipling Avenue, York Regional Police report.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old girl from Vaughan, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. A 16-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and a 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
