Veterans ride transit for free on Remembrance Day

Veterans and a companion are invited to enjoy free transit service throughout York Regional Transit (YRT) and Mobility Plus on Remembrance Day. Immediate family of a deceased veteran may also ride at no charge.

Veterans must identify themselves to YRT and Mobility Plus operators by showing a uniform, medal, beret or blazer. Immediate family of deceased veterans must present an item that identifies their relationship to the veteran, such as an identification card or service papers.

To honour the sacrifices made for all Canadians, all YRT and Mobility Plus services will pull over the curb at 11 a.m. that day for two minutes of silence, safety permitting.

For major service alerts, news, travel tips and other transit information, call 1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978), visit yrt.ca or follow YRT on social media. Check out talk2yrt.ca, a website where you can view questions and answers about YRT or submit your own questions.
