Save the Dates for the Mayor’s Golf Tournament and monthly meet and greets

The Mayor’s golf tournament has long been one of the seasons most anticipated events, highlighted by good fun, great networking and even the odd great golf shot. Last year was the first hosted by Mayor Justin Altmann and it was a huge success. This year will be no different, so avoid missing out and save the date, then book yourself or your group into this year’s event, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Sleepy Hollow Golf & Country Club. Contact Debi Paterson, Executive Assistant to the Mayor at debi.paterson@townofws.ca or call 905-640-1910 or 1-855-642-8697 ext 2227.

Also this month, you’re invited to meet the Mayor at one of his monthly community meet and greets. These casual, drop-in events, held at local businesses, are a great way to engage your Mayor in a low pressure, informal environment.  You can have a coffee, talk business, ask questions about what’s going on in your community, or just say hi.

The first is at Stouffville Nissan Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. You’d be surprised how beautiful new cars can encourage good conversation as it did last month. The second happens at the cozy Coach House in Ballantrae on Thursday June 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Everyone is welcome for great conversation, great food and the great drinks on tap.

Lastly, remember that if you can’t make it out to the Mayor’s public events and you have a question, you can always send them to his office or to contact@stouffvillereview.com. All questions will be answered, with some appearing here in print or on online monthly.

Q&A with the mayor

Q1. Hello Mayor Altmann. I was hoping you could clarify when the Leisure Center expansion will be complete and how that will impact the Town.

At the May 17th Council meeting, Council approved the hiring of the construction management team for the Leisure Centre. At this point we are running on schedule, and we are now on track for an expected completion date of Fall 2017. This is going to be wonderful way to provide more for the residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville. With increased capacities for our growing population, we will be able to offer more programs, more resources, and simply welcome more of the community to our state of the art facilities. The design work is set to be finished this September, so stay tuned for those updates.

Q2 Mayor Altmann, I really wished to attend the Council meeting on the 17th but I was not able to make it to Town Hall. How can I find out what’s happening?

You can always tune in to Council Meetings online via our live stream, which offers good quality audio and you can follow along with the posted agenda. In addition, we live tweet from each meeting from @WS Townhall, and you can usually find some chatter on our Facebook page. If you are unable to attend and would like to submit comments or feedback, contact Town Staff or your Ward Councilor. To submit your comments prior to the meeting, simply email or write a letter addressed to the Town Clerk. There are countless way to be heard in this Town, and we appreciate feedback from our residents.

Alexander Romano, 15, from Glad Park Public School, organized a clean-up of Memorial Park and surrounding creek areas as part of a project to earn his Chief Scout’s Award.

The cleanup took place Saturday, May 7 with the help of 25 community members and fellow scouts in conjunction with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

Alexander will receive the Chief Scout’s Award for his initiative. This prestigious award was created in 1973 by Governor General Roland Michener, who was then Chief Scout of Canada.

Alexander has already performed more than 30 hours of community service.

Way to go Alexander!
