If you love locally-grown produce, eggs, honey and meats, you’ll want to pick up the York Farm Fresh 2018 Guide Map. And with a new Passport to Fresh program, the more farms you visit, the greater the chance you’ll have to win a Thanksgiving Harvest Basket.
The map list 30 farms, 11 farmers’ markets and 18 food and fair events, and will help you discover farm-fresh products within York Region. Maps are available at member farms, farmers’ markets and township offices. A digital version can be downloaded from yorkfarmfresh.com
As part of the Passport to Fresh program, visit and purchase an item from as many of the Farm Fresh Farms on the map. With each different farm, you’ll get your ‘passport stamped. For every five farms you visit, you get an entry. Visit all 30 farms and receive 10 entries for a greater opportunity to win. The winner will be announced October 1. The passport is available in the guide map or online at yorkfarmfresh.com/passport2018.
In 2017, York Regional Council developed an Agriculture and Agri-food strategy to inform future policy development, initiatives and resource allocation decisions. Today, there are 3,578 full-time equivalent jobs in primary agricultural production and 57,000 jobs in the full agri-food sector in York Region.
York Farm Fresh, founded in 2017, is a non-profit organization that unites farmers, farmers’ markets, small food processors and other stakeholders who care about food produced in York Region. Watch for Farm Fresh’s new website launching in early June.
