York Region has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers in 2019 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. It marks the fourth time the region has been recognized.
“Creating and sustaining welcoming and inclusive communities is a key priority of York Region and regional council,” said Wayne Emmerson, York Region chairman and CEO. “We continue to focus on accessibility planning and building new and existing partnerships to support our growing communities.”
Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, administered through the Top 100 Employers project, recognizes employers across the country with exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs in a variety of areas. They include programs for employees from five groups: women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered/transsexual people.
York Region was selected for: maintaining their Newcomer Strategy, focusing on both the economic and social integration of newcomers; supporting the employment efforts of new Canadian job-seekers; and engaging with external partners in the development and administration of programs and initiatives, such as the Inclusion Charter of York Region.
“Our continued national and international recognition as a top employer for diversity and inclusion is a testament to the tremendous work and leadership of our dedicated employees,” said Bruce Macgregor, York Region chief administrative officer. “We are proud to work in an environment where everyone feels welcomed.”
