York Regional Forest Walks provide fun adventures

Spring is in the air and is a perfect time to reconnect with nature. York Region provides monthly walks for residents to enjoy the outdoors.

It’s a Bird! – Birding in the York Regional Forest takes place April 26 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and is for ages 10 and up. Learn from local bird experts how to identify migratory birds. Become a citizen scientist as you use sight and sound to try and discover forest birds. Binoculars will be provided. Registration required.

Community Tree Planting Festival takes place May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate spring in the forest. Bring the whole family for a fun-filled day of tree planting, face painting and a delicious BBQ hosted by the District Lions Club of Stouffville. Plant a tree and have loads of fun while making a difference in your community. Take home a free tree to beautify your yard…and help the planet. Bring your work gloves and shovel. Open to all. Registration required. Shuttle bus service will be provided.

Taking Family Photos in Nature 101 takes place June 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for ages 14 and up. Outdoor family photos can be tricky. Join the adventure and enjoy an introductory photography lesson on how to take great family photos with a nature theme. A beautiful forest is an ideal background to learn how to take the perfect family photo. Bring your camera. Registration required.

Meet your Forest takes place June 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is for ages six and up. Are you new to York Region? Join the fun and be introduced to the York Regional Forest. Take a guided walk while learning tips and tricks for your future adventures. Find out how you can discover the best of York Region’s hidden gems. Registration required.

Events have been and can be cancelled in the case of adverse weather conditions or for health concerns. The event leader will make his or her best efforts to contact everybody on the registration list (using the contact information provided upon registration) in the event of a cancellation.
